Ford GT Alan Mann Edition




 Finished in ‘Alan Mann Red’ with gold stripes, the GT recalls the livery of the 1960s racer. Frozen white accent stripes further replicate the look of the lightweight racer, while the number 16 – the number AM GT-1 raced with in period – appears on the doors, bonnet and underside of the rear wing.

Inside, the Alcantara seats feature red and gold stitching, carrying the livery through to the interior, along with gold and red trim details throughout. Large amounts of carbonfibre are on show, while the instrument panel features an ebony leather finish.

Mechanically, the GT is unchanged, with its 647bhp turbocharged V6 propelling it from rest to 62mph in just 2.8sec and on to a top speed of 216mph.

Prices and production numbers haven’t been revealed, although the car is available now for approved Ford GT customers, with deliveries due to take place by the end of March. The car will be on display at the Chicago motor show alongside its AM GT-1 inspiration.

Although the 4.7-litre AM GT-1 prototype never enjoyed competition success, its results from time trials at Le Mans helped Ford decide to run the heavier but more powerful 7.0-litre GT40 Mk2 for the 1966 season, which ultimately led to the brand taking a famous 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans.

Mercedes-AMG SL gains 2.0

  The   Mercedes-AMG SL   has gained a new entry-level variant featuring turbocharger technology that, the firm says, is directly derived from   Formula 1 .  The rear-wheel-drive SL 43 is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 375bhp and 354lb ft of torque. The model also benefits from a 12bhp boost from a 48V belt-driven starter-generator. As standard, the SL 43 is equipped with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger, which,  Mercedes  says, is a world first for a series-production vehicle.  The technology, which is the same as that used on  Mercedes-AMG  F1 cars, adds a 4cm-thick electric motor to the turbocharger shaft. Mercedes-Benz EQS450+ First Test

   We  already tested the EQS580 , but this is our first go in the 450+. The test results were predictable. Down 187 hp and a driven axle to the EQS580, the 450+ takes 1.7 seconds longer to reach 60 mph. That's quite a disparity, given how the 450+ is nearly 300 pounds lighter, but remember: The less powerful EQS still weighs more than 5,500 pounds. Around town, there is plenty of pep for shoehorning the large EQS into gaps in traffic, but acceleration tapers off noticeably above freeway speeds. As for range, the EPA says a 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS450+ can do 350 miles on a single full charge (just 10 more than an EQS580). We put more than 200 miles on our test car during a week of parking it outside overnight in cold weather without charging, after starting with an almost-full battery pack (with about 300-some miles of range showing) and never once worried we'd run out of juice.   With the arrival of the new   Kia Sportage , it's clear that the comapy execs at the apex of   Kia ’s corporate hierarchy apparently don’t like to dwell on the company's heritage, and perhaps that's understandable. Kia's rapid transformation from dumpy, irrelevant duckling to unambiguous class leader (hello  Kia EV6 ) borders on the stuff of industrial legend. Conversely, the people now tasked with marketing the company as a high-tech neophyte and legitimate premium-brand challenger feel that the less the public knows about its rustic back catalogue, the better.
